Not sad anymore, Having had quite a few trades over the last couple of years renovating our house I really had lost hope as the amount of dodgy and dishonest trades people is staggering and I have hired a few!! We were recommended Big Apple Roofing by a friend of a friend and got them out to quote along with a couple of other well known Roofing companies and one small two man company. Job required: Clean,repoint and rebed and replace 12 cracked tiles seal and paint entire roof.

Big company 1. Talk about pressure sales, wanted me to sign on the dotted line within 1/2 hour Quoted $12,750.00 then when I looked shocked he said he would do a deal and dropped $1500.00 if I sign up today?

Big Company 2. Same deal pressure sales sign on the dotted line $11,130.00 and continued to telesales call for two weeks from one of the sales team offering more deals if I pay deposit now with a credit card? Small company : Dirty looking, would start now? for $3,500 and would be finished in 2 days.they said no scaffolded needed on a 2 story house as it was not compulsory and would only add to the cost. I did ask for references and jobs to look at they said they would text info but never heard from them again.

Big Apple roofing : Breath of fresh air, the owner Rob called at the agreed time. Rob was very courteous when he introduced himself. He had a looked around the house took pictures then came back to me and explained in detail what needed to be done and went through the pictures on his Ipad, I was shocked to see the damage and overall wear and tear on my roof, I asked for a price and he went back to his car to work it out, came back and give me a price of $7233.60 and then explained a full breakdown of each item to be repaired or replaced. I did ask if it was possible to look at some of his company’s work which he provided freely. No pressure sales, no special deals,no dodgy don’t worry about the scaffold comments. All he said if you are happy with the price we can book a day in for scaffold and start the job the next day after. Checked two jobs he recommended and spoke to one owner of previous work Big Apple completed and was informed 4 others have used them in the same small court. Result: Hired Big Apple, job completed on time and the finish is superb 110% recommend and I never recommend anyone but this is an exception.
